Cassie walked into the house and went straight to the kitchen for a glass of water. She was hot and sweaty from working with Rosie, Sally, and Hank for the last two hours in 90-degree heat. She heard Gage and Logan and looked out the kitchen window to see them running around the backyard. Their antics made her smile. Gage had his hands up like claws and every time he made a roaring noise, Logan would shriek.

Her phone chimed from her back pocket, and she pulled it out to see a notification from her rehabilitation website, Pit Bull Pals. She tapped the screen to retrieve the message. She read the tip about a couple of dogs seen chained in the backyard of a house in one of the local neighborhoods. The message also related the dogs were in bad shape with bloody wounds and looking unkempt.

Cassie sometimes got these tips instead of them being called in to Animal Care and Control. They were usually anonymous, so that was probably the reason why. You don't have to leave contact information with Animal Care, but they preferred it.

Cassie jotted down the address in the message and made the call to Animal Control. Mary, one the switchboard ladies, promised she would dispatch a team out that day.

Two volunteers had shown up to take over the rest of the daily duties at the ranch, so with nothing else to do, Cassie decided to take a quick shower and join the boys in the backyard.
